This season marks the 101st year of football at Union/Bremerton High School. In 1908, Coach Dave 'Doc' Steager led the school to its first of seven Washington State football championships. The team posted a 7 - 3 record, losing only to Lincoln (Seattle), Athenian Club, and the USS Milwaukee. This season also marks the 40th anniversary
of Coach Chuck Semancik's 1968 undefeated Capital League team, the final year Bremerton played in the Capital League.

For the third consecutive season the Knights will compete in the reformed Olympic League - 3A Division. Once again, the Knights will face off against longtime rivals the Olympic Trojans and the Port Angeles Roughrider. New to the league this year are the Capital Cougars, the North Thurston Rams, the Timberline Blazers, and the Yelm Torpedos.

Homecoming this season will be on Friday, Oct. 19th, against North Thurston. All home games are played at Memorial Stadium, located on Ohio Street, directly behind the high school.

Where Will You Buy Your Fireworks?
Overnight the landscape of Bremerton has changed. In every parking lot large enough to hold 30 or more cars located on a high trafficked corner sits a temporary white plywood building with a “Credit Cards Accepted” sign on it. In all, there are nine stands from the intersection of Riddell Road and Wheaton Ave. in East Bremerton to the freeway on the west side of Bremerton. They are a sign that the July 4th holiday, Independence Day, is just around the corner. (more>>)

BUILDING A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM:
WHAT DOES IT TAKE?

This marks AFM's fifth annual State Champions survey. The results of the first four surveys indicated some clear-cut trends on the following topics: the consistent use of 'feeder' programs; a constant in the number of returning starters combining offense and defense; similar numbers of both juniors and seniors on varsity teams; the popularity of the four-man defensive front; and the consistency of overall football budgets. Spring Scrimmage
It has been a long time since one walked into the Bremerton Highboys locker room and saw football players. For more seasons than one wants to remember, the room has been occupied by a few talented athletes and young men who wanted to be called football players.Saturday (Jun. 14th), in a full contact spring scrimmage with the Kingston Buccaneers, on the grass of Memorial Stadium, the Knights showed their parents and loyal fans that they were more than a cliché. They showed that they are stronger, more disciplined than last year, and willing to work together. (more>>)

High School Football Springs to Forefront
One of the worst kept secrets is that high school football coaches have — and in some cases reluctantly — conducted spring practices for several years, following in the big brother footsteps of college football programs. All local schools are already into their spring football mode, with a couple adding a twist this year — scrimmages to wind up the spring sessions. Bremerton and Klahowya, for example, will square off on Saturday at Bremerton Memorial Stadium at 5 p.m. in a controlled scrimmage. (more>>)

A Significant Season
The 2007 Bremerton High football season is over. All the practice plans have been executed, the games have been played, the team busses have been reassigned to other duties, league honors have been distributed, and the team awards have been presents at the annual banquet. Looking back, the accomplishment of the fall of 2007 will be remembered in the annuals of Bremerton Football, a history that stretches back an entire century. (more>>)
